FEBE (Festive Earthen Building Events) is a program created by David Mitsak that combines community organizing, art and science for a unique learning experience. FEBE builds teamwork and leadership skills, and an appreciation of the natural elements through the ancient art of sundried earthen building. The FEBE program creates a hand-sculpted, artistic and functional structure, involving all ages from children to adults.
Below are the components of the program:
COMMUNITY ORGANIZING: Getting all elements of the community together, teamwork, volunteerism, making a positive difference, working together, raising funds, sharing community assets.
ART: Creating an artistic functional hand sculpted earthen structure, singing, dancing, writing, choreography, photography, audio and video recording, costumes, cooking.
SCIENCE: planning, project management, roles with responsibilities, promotion, production, advertising, event planning, event organizing, documentation, logistics, teamwork, education, unfired earthen construction technology, permaculture, shelter construction, architecture, design, fund raising.
